Skyrim Name Generator

Skyrim's naming is Old Norse with the serial numbers barely filed off, and these generators match that register: Nord names compound real Norse elements, while the elves, orcs and dwarves of Tamriel-style settings each keep their own distinct phonology. Whether you are naming a new playthrough character, a follower mod, or a tabletop game set somewhere suspiciously like the frozen north, pick the race and the generator will keep you in-register.

How the registers differ

Elf: Elven names flow with open vowels and liquid consonants — l, r, and n do most of the work, and hard stops are rare. The style descends from Tolkien's Sindarin and Quenya, where names were built from meaningful roots: gal (light), sil (shine), lor (gold).

Dwarf: Dwarven names are short, blunt and consonant-heavy — built to be shouted across a forge. Doubled consonants and hard stops (b, d, g, k, th) dominate, and vowels stay tight.

Orc: Orcish names are guttural and percussive — back-of-the-throat consonants (g, k, kh, z, gh) with clipped vowels. They're designed to sound harsh spoken aloud.

Nordic: Nordic names are compound words: two meaningful roots welded together. Sig (victory) + rid (rider) gives Sigrid; Thor + stein gives Thorstein.

Choosing between these Skyrim generators

If you already know the race, go straight to its generator — each one documents that tradition's phonetics, history and table usage beneath the tool. If you're still deciding, read the register notes above and pick by sound: the name you'll enjoy saying every session matters more than the lore fit, because you will say it several hundred times before the character retires.

Every generator here works the same way. Tap a name to copy it, star the ones worth keeping — they stay in your browser between sessions, which makes a useful name bank for the next time you need an NPC on no notice — and use the count selector when you want a longer list to choose from. Nothing is stored on our servers and nothing needs an account.

Naming a whole Skyrim cast

One name is easy; a consistent cast is the harder problem. The trick used by most worldbuilders is to fix a sound palette per culture and stay inside it: if one faction's names lean on soft l and r sounds, its rival's should not. Generate in bulk, shortlist the names that share a family resemblance, and keep the rejects — today's discarded name is next month's innkeeper. The worldbuilder's method guide covers this in full.
